Zak Apolito, Nick Holowka, and Kevin Palmisano participated in the 2026 American Association of Biological Anthropologists meeting in Denver, CO. Zak and Kevin presented posters about their work on bipedal stability and foot biomechanics, respectively, and Nick gave a symposium presentation about research on locomotion in forests.
Zak Apolito and Nick Holowka participated in the 2025 Northeast Evolutionary Primatology (NEEP) Meeting held at University of Pennsylvania. Zak received an Honorable Mention designation in the competition for Best Student Poster.
Zak Apolito successfully defended his dissertation proposal and advanced to doctoral candidacy. Congratulations Zak!
Nick Holowka received an NSF Senior Research Award for his proposal ‘Collaborative Research: Developing Kinetic 3D Computational Models of Bipedal Walking.’ This grant will fund research on experimental research and musculoskeletal modeling of intrinsic foot biomechanics in humans and chimpanzees.
Our paper ‘The adaptive function of the human ankle joint complex during walking on uneven terrains with implications for hominin locomotion’ was published in the Journal of Human Evolution. Congrats to Zak and Kevin on their first publication!
The Hominin Movement Lab participated in Anthrofest, an event put on by Penn State Anthropology where the community learns about topics in anthropology through games, activities, and demonstrations. They hosted a booth where visitors made footprints in sand while learning about the evolution of human bipedalism.
